| The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project is a major regional infrastructure project (Capex: 4.1 G$, OPEX:>2.5 G$ over 25 years) between Uganda and Tanzania coast, opening a new value corridor between the two countries.The project anticipates the mobilization of ~8,000 to 10,000 personnel across the various construction sites. This role functions as an assistant specialized in botany and habitat restoration to support the EACOP Biodiversity team. The Reinstatement Assistant will work with relevant EACOP teams and external Consultants to complete reinstatement requirements in sections of natural habitat and critical habitat as defined by the Critical Habitat Assessment’s Biodiversity Action Plan on a call off basis (this role is for ad hoc support and is not included in the EACOP HR organogram). The role will involve evaluation of the habitat restoration tasks that will be completed by the contractors (e.g., topsoil replacement, erosion control, nurseries, monitoring requirements) in order to support the implementation of location-specific restoration plans to be implemented in the field by the Biodiversity Restoration Contractors. |
Activities |
| Profile of role ·Knowledge of EACOP project, familiar with environmental context for the pipeline Right of Way ·Experience with restoration activities of similar nature, preferable in East Africa ·Qualification – Diploma or Graduate degree in botany or related field ·Experienced field botanist ·Understanding of habitat restoration related regulatory requirements Preparation Activities ·Understand the Critical Habitat Assessments (CHAs) process and associated requirements ·Have knowledge of the various habitats traversed by EACOP ·Extensive experience with botanical surveys The main activities for this role will include: ·Support additional field biodiversity reinstatement verification surveys along EACOP RoW ·Participate in site assessments and identify reinstatement requirements for completed construction areas. ·Support verification of natural regeneration and habitat restoration initiatives within natural habitats, critical habitats, and protected areas. ·Assist with monitoring of natural recolonization of flora and fauna within reinstated areas. ·Support collection of restoration performance data, including vegetation cover, species diversity, survival rates, and habitat recovery indicators. ·Monitor and report on invasive alien species occurrences and effectiveness of control measures. |

Qualifications and Required Experience |
| Professional experience: ·Diploma or Graduate degree in a botany. ·Minimum of 15 years’ experience with time spent supporting conservation projects. ·Knowledge of and experience with reinstatement requirements for large projects. Technical competencies: ·Familiarity with IFC standard, CHAs and associated management plans and systems that support lender compliance Behavioural competencies: ·Ability to work in a multi-cultural business setting and excellent interpersonal and communication skills essential.
