JOB TITLE: VENUS SURF CONTRACT ENGINEER
POSITION IN THE ORGANIZATION
Location: SURF EPCI Contractor office
Report to: SURF Project Control Lead
MISSIONS
Support the SURF Project Control Lead and the SURF Manager by ensuring mainly:
• Effective administration and monitoring of the execution of SURF Engineering, Procurement, Supply, Construction, and Commissioning (EPSCC) contract and potential other minor contracts (MWS, 3rd party engineering work, etc).
• Assist in the management of variation order, contractual correspondence, and maintain associated registers.
ACTIVITIES
• Ensure contractual compliance and full implementation of EPSCC Contract by SURF Contractor
• Apply TotalEnergies practices and referential compliance by SURF Company team with regards to Contract Administration
• Assist and advise the SURF Project Control Lead and the SURF Manager in matters concerning Variation Orders/Claims/Dispute analysis and negotiations, including coordination and consistency check between packages
• Draft and manage contractual correspondence, variation order requests (VORs), and variation orders (VOs) from both Company and Contractor
• Organize and arrange the follow-up of timely responses to contractual notices.
• Maintain and update contractual registers including correspondence logs, claims log, VO tracking, and contract milestones
• Develop and maintain a counter-claim register and build timely argumentation to counter-claims with the support of all team members involved
• Ensure contractual requirements with regards to Bank Guarantees and Parent Company Guarantees are complied with
• Provide contractual input to project documentation and decision-making processes.
• Verify compliance of insurance policies (Contractor / CAR / liability), collection of certificates, and tracking of renewals (in addition to bank/PCG guarantees).
• Review payment applications, milestone certification/validation, management of retentions, liquidated damages/bonuses, and reconciliation of amounts
• Verify the flow-down of obligations from Contractor to its subcontractor, alignment with subcontracts, and interface-related subcontractor risks.
• Follow-up contractual punch list, final account, lifting of reservations, release/return of guarantees, and close-out dossiers.
• Coordinate with all other team members, such as engineering, procurement, fabrication, installation teams to ensure contractual compliance, alignment and awareness
• Interface with other project packages (e.g., SPS, FPSO, Drilling, Field Operations) to manage contractual boundaries and obligations
• Support the Project Control Manager as required in cost, schedule, and risk reporting related to contract execution
• Contribute to internal and external reporting on contractual matters, progress, and risks.
HSE ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Adhere to Project HSE Site Instructions and Policies.
Report anomalies, incidents, near misses to HSE.
Demonstrate leadership in HSE behaviors, implementation and reporting.
Shall comply with TotalEnergies' HSE programs (Golden Rules, Our lifes First…)
CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENT
The Venus field is an ultra‑deepwater project at roughly 3,000 m water depth, designed to produce 160,000 bbl./d of oil through two subsea production rings, and to re-inject produced gas through two dedicated gas injection lines. The development includes up to 38 subsea wells tied back to the FPSO, and a large subsea umbilical system.
International and multi-cultural environment.
Consortium with 2 partners, In & Out contracts, many suppliers and subcontractors, several fabrication sites worldwide and large fleet of installation vessels
Position permanently based at SURF EPCI Contractor office
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Degree in Law, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
Minimum 15 years of experience in contract management within oil & gas deepwater projects, with SURF experience.
Strong understanding of TotalEnergies EPSCC contract, procurement processes, and subsea project execution.
Proficiency in contract drafting, negotiation, and administration tools.
Languages: English mandatory, with good communication skills; ability to work in a multicultural environment.
