HSE / RSESD role
There is no equivalent project of such industrial drilling magnitude in a remote and sensitive area within the Group today.
The Tilenga oilfields are partly situated in a protected National Park, partly beneath the River Nile wetlands area, and within a densely populated area in a rural and remote part of Uganda. Activities are exposed to the risk of major incidents with severe potential consequences due to the local environment and the significant presence of NGOs.
Factory Drilling, with one well delivered every four days using three drilling rigs simultaneously, requires standardization of equipment and procedures, strict enforcement of Drilling & Well instructions, and safe and efficient logistics management on site. The project is focused on delivering the lowest possible cost, which requires challenging TotalEnergies design concepts as well as substantially challenging the TotalEnergies referential.
The project operates in a multicultural environment, with Contractors anticipated to be located in various parts of the world. Ugandan rules and regulations, administrative requirements, technical authorizations and international codes for onshore plants apply.
The project FID was signed in Q1 2022, drilling operations started in Q2 2022, and the Ready For Start-up (RFSU) target is July 2026.
