Description

Location : Kampala, Uganda
Duration 12 months+
Status Resident

Reporting line in organization: Head of Geophysicist and part of a team of 7 geophysicists

Activities
The Senior Geophysicist interacts with the rest of the multi-disciplinary subsurface team (Operation Geologists, Petrophysicists,
Geophysicists, Geologist, Reservoir Engineers) during the preparation and follow-up of the project’s execution. The main
activities include:
• Responsible for providing the geophysical inputs of Well SORs in close collaboration with the geologists, reservoir engineers, Operation Geology & drilling teams (objectives, well trajectory, target box, section TD criteria, data acquisition).
• During drilling operations, responsible for providing and communicating (within the subsurface team and to the Drilling & Wells team) the most appropriate geophysical interpretations and participate in the decision-making progress to safely deliver the wells and achieve their objectives (Markers interpretation, stratigraphical interpretation, lithological assessment...). it requires an adaptation skill to fit with the high pace rhythm of the operation.
• Responsible of the quality & pertinence of the geophysical data and studies. Validate the reference seismic data used for any seismic interpretation or well preparation. Apply the best practice in managing these data, together with the Geoinformation team.
• Responsible for the wells’ results integration during the development drilling campaign to prepare and optimize the design of the next wells and/or pads (continuous improvement). This task could include the update of the reservoir model on-the-fly.
• Ensure the analysis, the interpretation, and the synthesis of the seismic data.
• Responsible for providing pertinent and valid geophysical input to the documentation & reporting required by the stakeholders (JV partners, Local Authorities, affiliate, HQ)
• Propose continuous improvements on the way the team (G&G) works, add value to the project by identifying new technologies (from the company or external) applicable to Tilenga.
• Contribute to the improvement of the team’s geophysics skills and the coaching of the less experienced geophysicists/geoscientists to secure the advancement of the global geophysical work and the technical quality of the work performed by TEPU geophysicists.
• Submit proposals as part of identifying, scoping and following-up the geophysical-related studies carried by the Technical Line in HQ in collaboration with Customer Line Onshore upstream.

Context and environment
A Green Field Project, the Tilenga field is to be found in a remote location in UGANDA near lake Albert with particular sensitive environmental conditions.
A challenging project; heavy and waxy oils produced from 31 drilling pads, (with some of them located in a national park) and treated in a Production Center of 200,000bopd oil capacity and 650,000 bld of water treatment capacity. Reservoir pressure maintenance is ensured either by water injection or by polymer water injection depending on the reservoirs characteristics. The project also includes an extended interconnecting network with temperature preservation.
Multicultural environment: Contractors are anticipated to be located in various parts of the world. Ugandan rules and regulations, administrative requirements and technical authorizations as well as international codes for onshore plant will apply

Main Accountabilities
• As one of the most experienced geophysicist in the team, provide geophysical support to the GSR team (40+ staffs), which also comprises Operations Geologists, asset geologists, Petrophysicists, Reservoir engineers, Data managers and GIS specialists, during the drilling campaign of 420 wells on Tilenga (3600 MMbbl of STOIIP and 840 MMbbl base case reserves) delivered in factory mode.
• Follow and Apply the relevant geophysical workflows & techniques of TotalEnergies to achieve TILENGA project objectives.
• Geophysical activities impacting project budget related to studies, wells preparation and drilling
• Main key interfaces:
▪ TEP UG: Geology, subsurface operations and petrophysical interpretation, cap rock integrity, Geoinformation team, reservoir engineers and drilling entities
▪ ONE TECH Customer Lines (Onshore Upstream) and Technical Lines specialists (Geosciences & Reservoir),
▪ JV partners and local authorities
• Mentor the geophysicists/geoscientists with daily coaching and training proposition by being the relay of the head of geophysics

Qualifications/Experience required
Minimum Bsc in Petroleum Geosciences
• Minimum of 10 years of experience as reservoir Geophysicist with practice in the following competencies: seismic QC, seismic processing/inversion, structural interpretation, Time-to-depth conversion, well preparation, uncertainty analysis, reservoir characterization. Significant Exposure to well operations. Experience in the use of TotalEnergies seismic interpretation platform is a strong plus. Fluent in English mandatory.
• Demonstrated team spirit, solidarity, strong coaching & communication skills, commitment & efficiency, work in multidisciplinary and multi-cultural teams
