| Job Description Overview | The Construction Methods Specialist shall be an experienced Oil and Gas professional with proven expertise in construction methods, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities within large-scale projects. The role requires extensive experience in international project environments and a strong understanding of leading Oil and Gas organizational internal management systems, particularly during project transition phases from construction to commissioning and handover. The position shall provide technical leadership and assurance on construction methodologies, including scaffolding systems and working at heights processes, ensuring that all activities are planned, executed, and controlled in accordance with international standards, project procedures, and applicable safety requirements. The candidate must demonstrate a strong capability to assess constructability, method statements, and risk controls associated with elevated works, temporary structures, and access systems across complex construction environments. |
| Specific Roles & Responsibilities |
| ·Mentor and guide project disciplines and contractors on the most feasible, efficient, and safe construction methods to be applied across all project stages. ·Identify key construction and interface risks, including those related to working at heights and scaffolding, and support the development and implementation of management systems to effectively control these risks and protect project stakeholders. ·Ensure understanding and application of IOGP Life-Saving Rules (LSR), with specific emphasis on Working at Heights, and support the establishment of systems and controls to ensure full compliance. ·Provide technical support and assurance on scaffolding design, erection, inspection, use, and dismantling, ensuring alignment with approved standards, procedures, and safe access requirements. ·Support the planning and verification of working-at-heights activities, including method statements, risk assessments, Permit-to-Work interfaces, and rescue and emergency response arrangements. ·Work collaboratively with various project disciplines, particularly on financed projects, to ensure construction methodologies meet technical, quality, safety, and contractual expectations. ·Develop and deliver targeted training and coaching programs to strengthen competencies in construction methods, pre-commissioning, commissioning, quality, and safety management systems, including working at heights and scaffold safety. ·Establish and promote continuous improvement (Deming cycle) within key disciplines, ensuring lessons learned, audits, and performance feedback are captured and effectively implemented |
Qualifications and Key Person Specifications
Qualifications
Academic:
·Technically qualified professional in international Oil & Gas operations
·NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent tertiary qualification)
·Bachelor’s in Engineering (Civil/Mechanical/Construction/Structural or equivalent) — desirable
·Qualifications in ISO 31000, ISO 45001, ISO 9001
·Formal training in Working at Heights and Scaffolding (incl. inspection/rescue awareness)
- Fully conversant with Microsoft Office
Essential:
·10+ years international major project experience in the Oil & Gas sector
·7–10 years working in developing countries in a similar Oil & Gas role
·Minimum 5 years active field experience as a Scaffolding Supervisor or Scaffolding Design Engineer on major projects
·Proven experience in setting up and deploying key management systems on EPC / EPCmC projects
·Fully conversant with eVision software, systems, and implementation
- Familiar with root cause analysis tools and methodologies commonly used in the Oil & Gas industry
·Oil and Gas or other heavy industry related experience
·Experience of working in Africa and Major International Oil and Gas projects
Pipeline construction experience as well as off-shore and Processing Plant
