Job Summary
The LNG Carrier Conversion Manager will oversee the conversion of a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Carrier into a permanent floating storage unit for LNG. This role involves managing the entire conversion project, ensuring compliance with technical, safety, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities
Project Management
•Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of the LNG carrier conversion project within scope, budget, and timeline.
•Develop and maintain project schedules, milestones, and risk management plans.
•Coordinate with the shipyard (Dubai Drydocks), Contractors, and classification societies (e.g., ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s Register)
•Ensure compliance with international maritime regulations (SOLAS, MARPOL)


Technical Oversight
•Oversee the engineering and design modifications required for converting the LNG carrier into a floating storage unit, including:
oStructural reinforcements for static operations.
oModifications to LNG containment systems (increase of thickness of the insulation)
oIntegration of boil-off gas (BOG) handling systems, vapor return lines, and safety systems.
oUpgrades to mooring, offloading, and transfer systems for permanent operations.
•Collaborate with naval architects, marine engineers, and LNG specialists to validate technical solutions.
•Review and approve engineering drawings, FEA (Finite Element Analysis), and stability calculations.


Contractor & Vendor Management
•Select, negotiate, and manage subcontractors, suppliers, and service providers (e.g., shipyards, equipment vendors, inspection agencies).
•Monitor progress of fabrication, installation, and testing of new systems (e.g., cryogenic piping, insulation, safety systems).
•Ensure quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) throughout the conversion process.

Safety & Compliance
•Enforce HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) protocols in alignment with ISM Code, ISPS Code, and UAE local regulations.
•Ensure outcomes from HAZID (Hazard Identification), HAZOP (Hazard and Operability), and risk assessments for conversion activities are fully implemented.
•Ensure fire safety, gas detection, and emergency response systems are upgraded for permanent floating storage operations.

Stakeholder Coordination
•Liaise with end-users to align on operational requirements.
•Provide regular progress reports, cost tracking, and variance analysis to project management.
•Facilitate third-party inspections and certifications (e.g., class society surveys, flag state approvals).

Commissioning & Handover
•Lead sea trials, performance testing, and commissioning of the converted floating storage unit.
•Ensure documentation (e.g., as-built drawings, operation manuals, certificates) is complete for handover.
•Support training for operational crews on the modified systems.

Qualifications & Experience
Education
•Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
•Certifications in Project Management (PMP) or Maritime Safety (ISM, ISPS) are a plus.

Experience
•10+ years in shipbuilding, ship conversion, or offshore projects, with at least 5 years in LNG carriers or floating storage units (FSUs/FPSOs).
•Prroven track record in managing drydock projects. Experience in UAE is a plus.
•Experience with LNG Carriers is mandatory.
•Experience with classification societies (ABS, DNV, LR) and regulatory compliance (IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL).
•Familiarity with LNG containment systems (especially Moss spherical tanks) and cryogenic material handling.

Technical Skills
•Proficiency in project management software (MS Project) is a plus
•Strong understanding of structural analysis, stability calculations, and marine systems.
•Knowledge of LNG transfer, Boil-Off Gas Management, and safety systems (e.g., ESD, F&G detection) is required

Soft Skills
•Leadership to manage multidisciplinary teams (engineers, contractors, inspectors).
•Negotiation and conflict resolution for vendor and stakeholder management.
•Analytical and problem-solving skills for technical and logistical challenges.
•Fluency in English (written and spoken); French is a plus.


Working Conditions
•Site-based role at Dubai Drydocks with travels to Gabon after sail-away for assistance to start-up.
•High-pressure environment with tight deadlines and complex technical challenges.
•Safety-critical role: Adherence to PPE, confined space entry, and hot work permits is mandatory.
