01 The opportunity
This client is at the point where an exploration company becomes a producer. Its gold and polymetallic portfolio in the Republic of Congo has moved from targeting into advanced exploration, a semi-industrial production activity is being built alongside the exploration programmes, and the company is structuring partnerships with international industry players who will expect institutional-grade technical work.
The Technical Director – Geology & Mining is the executive appointed to lead that transition. The role carries full technical authority over Client's mining activities in Congo: the exploration strategy and its execution, the geological models and the data behind them, the pathway to resources reported to international standards, and the technical foundations of semi-industrial production. It also sets the technical standards applied across the Group and acts as technical reference for Client's operations in Côte d'Ivoire.
This is a building mandate. The incoming executive will inherit real assets, committed teams and an entrepreneurial culture, and will be expected to install the standards, systems and discipline that turn that base into a technically credible, partner-ready mining company. The position sits on the country management team, reports to the Managing Director and offers direct exposure to Group strategy and partner discussions.

Our client is a mining exploration and mineral trading company headquartered in Pointe-Noire, Republic of Congo. The company holds and operates a portfolio of gold and polymetallic exploration permits at different stages of maturity, from early-stage targeting to advanced exploration, and is developing a semi-industrial gold and polymetallic production activity in parallel with its exploration programmes. Our Client also operates in Côte d'Ivoire and is structuring partnerships with international industry players.
The company combines the agility of an entrepreneurial organisation with the backing of a diversified group. Its ambition over the coming years is to convert geological potential into defined resources and first production, while raising its technical standards to the level expected by international partners and investors.


The mandate
The Technical Director is the overall technical and geological authority for Client 's mining activities. The role is accountable for the design, programming, supervision and technical arbitration of exploration programmes and associated mining works across gold and polymetallic assets, and for the technical soundness of the company's semi-industrial production.
In a multi-site, highly operational and rapidly evolving environment, the Technical Director guarantees the technical coherence of decisions, the scientific quality of the work and the transformation of geological potential into value, in alignment with operational, financial and regulatory constraints. Beyond Congo, the role sets the technical standards applied across the Group and acts as technical reference for the country teams in Côte d'Ivoire.

03 Key responsibilities
A. Technical strategy and exploration programming
• Define and lead the technical and geological strategy for Client's gold and polymetallic assets in Congo.
• Design and programme multi-year exploration plans covering reconnaissance, geochemistry, geophysics, trenching and drilling.
• Prioritise targets, areas and phases of work on the basis of geological potential, project maturity, technical risk and budget.
B. Technical management and field execution
• Supervise the execution of technical programmes across all sites.
• Lead and develop the geology teams shared between projects.
• Select, coordinate and supervise technical contractors for drilling, geophysics and laboratory services, from scope of work through tendering to contract performance.
• Guarantee the quality, traceability and integrity of geological and technical data.
C. Data, analysis and geological modelling
• Establish and oversee the systems for data collection, validation (QA/QC), management and analysis.
• Develop, maintain and update geological and technical models by project and by vertical
nterpret results to guide technical and strategic decisions.
D. Resource definition, certification and value trajectory
• Design and lead programmes for the progressive definition of mineral resources, from targeting through to advanced phases.
• Structure drilling, sampling, databases and QA/QC so that all work is compatible with international resource reporting standards (JORC, NI 43-101 or equivalent).
• Prepare, with management and external experts where required, the technical inputs for resource or reserve certification by an independent Competent or Qualified Person.
• Ensure consistency between advanced exploration, asset valuation and the Group's strategic decisions.
E. Semi-industrial production — technical ownership
• Own the technical side of semi-industrial production: geological control, grade control and sampling, mine planning and sequencing, and the technical parameters of the processing chain.
• Work hand in hand with the Director of Operations to align technical choices with field realities and exercise functional authority over site technical staff.
• Supervise and support the technical work related to pre-production, ramp-up, semi-industrial production and the optimisation of existing operations.
• Take part in arbitration between technical ambition, operational feasibility and financial discipline.
F. Group technical standards and oversight
• Define and roll out the Group's technical standards and procedures — exploration methods, data management, QA/QC, reporting formats — across all Client entities.
• Provide technical peer review and support to the technical lead in Côte d'Ivoire and to other Group entities as the portfolio develops, without direct line management.
• Act as the Group's technical counterpart towards partners, consultants and independent experts on cross-entity matters.
G. Reporting, governance and asset valorisation
• Produce structured, regular technical reporting for the Managing Director and the Group.
• Prepare technical syntheses for management, technical partners and, on instruction, investors or third parties.
• Contribute to the technical valorisation of the permits — memoranda, presentations, data rooms — and to due-diligence processes with prospective partners.
H. Compliance, HSE and standards
• Ensure compliance with the regulatory obligations attached to the mining permits: work programmes, technical reporting to the mining administration, renewals.
• Embed and enforce HSE standards across all technical activities.
• Implement good mining practice in line with international standards.

04 Organisation and decision rights
The Technical Director sits on the country management team alongside the Deputy Managing Director, the Director of Operations and the Chief Financial & Administrative Officer, and reports to the Managing Director. The role line-manages the geology teams and technical contractors, shares authority over site technical staff with the Director of Operations, and exercises functional oversight of the technical lead in Côte d'Ivoire.

05 Candidate profile
Must have
• Master's degree or equivalent (Bac+5) in geology, geosciences or mining engineering.
• Twelve to fifteen or more years in the mining industry, including several years in a senior technical leadership position — Chief Geologist, Exploration Manager, Technical Manager or equivalent.
• A proven track record in polymetallic exploration and on gold projects that have progressed towards production.
• Experience leading advanced exploration programmes, resource definition work and the technical support of semi-industrial or small-scale mining operations.
• Career experience in Central or West Africa.
• Fluent French; professional working English.
Strongly preferred
• Direct exposure to grade control, mine planning and processing on a gold operation.
• Experience managing multi-site, multi-commodity projects and mixed teams of local staff, expatriates and contractors.
• Membership of a recognised professional body (AusIMM, AIG, SME, EurGeol or equivalent) and familiarity with Competent Person requirements.
• Experience of partner due diligence, data rooms or technical presentations to investors.
Technical competencies
• Expertise spanning exploration, geological modelling and resource definition, with a working knowledge of JORC and NI 43-101 requirements.
• Command of modern exploration methods, geological software and data management systems.
• Rigour on HSE, data integrity and regulatory compliance.

07 Location and working arrangement
The position is based in Pointe-Noire on a resident basis, with frequent missions to the exploration and production sites in the Republic of Congo and occasional travel to Côte d'Ivoire and Group locations. The search is open to international and regional candidates; remuneration and contractual terms will be discussed directly with the search partner.

The position has Group-level technical reach and will also support the development of technical standards across our activities.
The ideal candidate should have significant experience in gold and polymetallic projects, advanced exploration, resource definition and preferably exposure to mining operations in Central or West Africa.
